Commission seeks records and safeguards for children

Kompolnas Commissioner Choirul Anam told Kompas.com on October 31, 2026, that the police's Professional and Security Division (Propam) should investigate what happened and whether officers breached procedures. He emphasized that enforcement at an educational institution must follow safeguards for women, children and other vulnerable groups. Any officers found to have violated those rules should be held accountable, he said.

Anam asked Central Java Police to explain why they searched the school, including its connection to the wanted person, how often that person had visited and when. Making those details public would help prevent speculation, he said.

He also sought clarification on whether child-protection authorities, such as a local or provincial Women and Children's Protection Unit (PPA), participated in the operation to safeguard children's rights. Photos, videos and other records of the search should be released, he said, to establish the sequence of events and show how officers acted.

School alleges excessive force and missing seizure records

The raid took place around 3:50 a.m. Western Indonesia Time on Tuesday, October 27, at the school in Laban village, Mojolaban district, according to detikJateng. Female students and teachers were taken to the Mojolaban police station and then to Sukoharjo police headquarters for questioning as witnesses.

The school said neither legal counsel nor representatives of relevant agencies assisted them at the first station. According to its account, assistance became available only when questioning took place at Sukoharjo police headquarters.

In Circular Letter No. 010/RTQ-HQ/SE/X/2026, dated October 29, the school alleged that police and Brimob personnel used excessive force. Management also claimed officers seized property worth about Rp50 million without handing over official seizure documents at the time. The items allegedly included more than Rp16 million in student and teacher savings, gold, three motorcycles, phones and a drone.

YLBHI Chairman Muhamad Isnur condemned the raid on Pondok Pesantren Hamalatul Qur'an in Mojolaban, saying it violated the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), human rights and child-protection law. He called on national police headquarters, Propam and the police general supervision inspectorate (Itwasum) to impose serious sanctions on both the officers involved and their commanders.

Police describe arson investigation and search for wanted man

Sukoharjo Police Chief Andika Dharma Sena said the operation concerned an investigation into arson, property destruction and threats at Warung Mi dan Babi Tepi Sawah in Parangjoro village, Grogol district, Sukoharjo. That incident occurred on September 12, 2026.

Police also searched a second Islamic boarding school on October 27 in Trengguli village, Jenawi district, Karanganyar Regency. Andika said 12 people were detained there and given witness status.

Central Java Police Chief Roy Hardi Siahaan said the wanted man, identified by the initial I, was absent from both locations during the searches. He described I as a former terrorism convict who had carried out a terrorist act targeting the Pasar Kliwon police station in the Solo area around 2015.

Siahaan said a district court order authorized the searches. He attributed the deployment of heavily armed Brimob personnel to the assessed risk and the suspect's record.

He also said the 19 people at the Sukoharjo location were questioned with direct assistance from the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for Women and Child Protection (UPTD PPA). Afterward, all were returned to their parents or guardians through that unit rather than taken back to the school building, he said.

Deputy police chief pledges action if violations are found

On October 31, Central Java Deputy Police Chief Andi Herindra Rahmawan met with religious figures including Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, Abdul Rohim and Amir Mahmud. He said police would take firm action through Propam if procedural violations were established, while emphasizing that the meeting did not determine the outcome of the continuing investigation.
