School describes armed officers entering before dawn

The allegations concern 12 female students and four teachers at the HQ Islamic boarding school in Mojolaban. School officials said officers pulled students from their rooms, shouted at them and threatened them with firearms before they could put on their hijabs.

School secretary Diyana Indah Sari said dozens of armed police, including Brimob personnel, arrived around 3:20 a.m. on October 27, 2026, while the students were sleeping. She said officers forced open the entrance after receiving no answer, then broke through the door of a teacher's room where the students had taken shelter.

"When the door was finally opened, the female students were pulled out and pointed at with long firearms, yelled at, and intimidated while still not properly dressed," Diyana said.

Police explain the search and earlier arrest

Sukoharjo Police Chief AKBP Andika Dharma Sena linked the operation to the September 12, 2026, arson and vandalism at the Mi and Babi Tepi Sawah food stall in Parangjoro Village, Grogol District. Police have named two suspects: ST, arrested on October 19, and a fugitive identified as I.

Andika said resistance during ST's arrest prompted a request for tactical assistance from Brimob. Central Java Police Chief Inspector General Roy Hardi Siahaan gave a more detailed account, saying ST resisted with a samurai sword and injured two Brimob personnel before officers subdued him.

According to Roy, both ST and I are former terrorism convicts who were involved in the 2015 attack on the Kliwon police sector.

Speaking on October 30, Roy described the October 27 searches as a "pure legal process" conducted under a court-issued warrant to find I. Officers searched the HQ school and another boarding school in Jenawi District, Karanganyar, but did not find the suspect at either location.

Roy said the seized items included swords, a samurai sword, a celurit, a bayonet, bows and arrows, strong acid, spirit material, communication devices and certain books. Sukoharjo Police returned items unrelated to the arson and vandalism case to the boarding school on October 31.

Police also took several people in for questioning as witnesses. Roy said 19 people at the Sukoharjo site were questioned with direct assistance from the regional Women and Children Protection Technical Implementation Unit, or UPTD PPA. All were subsequently returned to their parents or guardians through that unit, rather than taken back to the school building, he said.

Commission and youth organization demand scrutiny

On October 31, National Police Commission, or Kompolnas, Commissioner Choirul Anam urged the Police Professional and Security Division, known as Propam, to investigate the intimidation allegations. He asked Central Java Police to explain the connection between the fugitive and the boarding school, clarify whether child-protection authorities participated in the search, and release photographs or video documenting the operation.

The central leadership of Pemuda Persatuan Islam, or PP Pemuda PERSIS, also condemned the raid on October 31. Chairman Hilman Rasyid identified the site as the Hamalatul Qur'an girls' boarding school in Mojolaban and called for a transparent investigative audit by Propam and Kompolnas.

The organization said the inquiry should cover both the commanding officer and the personnel who carried out the search. It also urged the National Police, the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, and KPAI to help the students recover from trauma.
