Chinese mining equipment giant unveils green technology solutions at Jakarta trade show
Shandong Heavy Industry Group displayed a comprehensive range of intelligent mining equipment and environmental solutions at the 24th Indonesia International Construction Machinery and Mining Exhibition, signaling expanded investment in Southeast Asia's largest mining market.
The Chinese manufacturer presented an integrated operation system spanning earthmoving, excavation, loading, transport, compaction and power generation at CON-MINE, held Sept. 9-12 at JIEXPO Kemayoran in Jakarta. The exhibition, organized by PT Pamerindo Indonesia since 2002, has established itself as Southeast Asia's premier platform for construction and mining equipment.
SDHI brought five flagship brands to the event: Weichai, Sinotruk, Shacman, Shantui and Lovol, showcasing equipment specifically adapted for Indonesian mining conditions and regulatory requirements.
Vice president Zhang Gengsheng emphasized the industry's transformation during the opening ceremony.

The company announced plans to accelerate localization across research and development, manufacturing, services and financing while pursuing partnerships with Indonesian mining operators. This strategy aligns with China's position as Indonesia's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade exceeding $130 billion in 2025 and substantial investment flowing into mining and infrastructure sectors.
Equipment portfolio targets operational challenges
SDHI's exhibition addressed specific challenges facing Indonesian mining operations, where deeper excavations and longer haul distances demand more powerful and efficient machinery as easily accessible deposits become depleted.
Weichai Power, China's largest diesel engine manufacturer with a presence in over 110 countries, displayed products covering fuel power, batteries, and energy storage systems designed for mining applications. The company positioned its offerings as comprehensive solutions for mining electrification and power supply requirements.
Sinotruk presented mining transport vehicles with diverse powertrain configurations, while Shacman exhibited heavy-duty dump trucks featuring reinforced frames engineered for operations involving multiple slopes and frequent starts and stops.
Shantui deployed equipment covering overburden removal, excavation, loading, hauling and road maintenance, with modifications addressing Indonesia's biofuel characteristics and high-temperature, dusty environments. Lovol emphasized low-carbon capabilities and heavy-load operation capacity for large-scale open-pit mining extraction.
Market expansion amid regulatory shift
SDHI's technology showcase responds to Indonesia's evolving regulatory landscape, where environmental requirements for mining operations have intensified since 2020, including mandatory environmental impact assessments and progressive reclamation standards.
The timing coincides with Indonesia's strategic push to expand domestic nickel processing capacity for electric vehicle battery production, announced in 2024. This policy creates demand for expanded mining operations and advanced equipment in a country that serves as the world's largest thermal coal exporter and a major producer of nickel, tin and copper.
Indonesia's mining sector contributed approximately 14 percent to national GDP in 2024-2025, employing over 1.8 million workers directly and indirectly, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. This economic significance underscores the importance of equipment modernization and operational efficiency improvements.
SDHI has established a marketing and service network with spare parts support covering Indonesia's territory. The group announced new strategic cooperation agreements with several leading Indonesian mining enterprises encompassing product procurement, technical services and localized operations.
The company indicated it will continue expanding its regional business channels and deepening localized operations while promoting deployment of green and intelligent equipment. Zhang stated SDHI aims to work with partners in developing more efficient, cleaner and sustainable mining development models across Southeast Asia.
