Specialist and maternity capacity gaps

During the inspection in Penanian Village, Gibran asked how the hospital was recruiting specialists, including whether it was working with universities through memorandums of understanding.

Acting Director Naomi Bungan said the hospital has an obstetrician-gynecologist, an ear, nose and throat specialist, a dental specialist and an anesthesiologist. More medical staff are needed, she said, including a second obstetrician-gynecologist.

Bungan said the hospital had signed a memorandum of understanding with Hasanuddin University in Makassar to help meet its need for doctors, Kompas TV reported on November 2.

The broadcaster also reported that Kondosapata has only two delivery rooms. When demand exceeds that capacity, some patients have to be referred outside Mamasa Regency.

Keeping services running during construction

Gibran said the community needs the hospital and called for construction to proceed well, but stressed that completing the building alone would not ensure safe, quality care. Staff, equipment and services must also be ready so the hospital can treat patients locally rather than refer them elsewhere.

"We must not allow the building to be completed while the facilities and medical personnel are not ready," he said.

He also asked officials how patients would receive care while work was underway. Construction must not interrupt treatment or put patients' safety and comfort at risk, he said.

According to ANTARA's Makassar bureau, the new Kondosapata hospital is part of the health component of President Prabowo Subianto's "Program Hasil Terbaik Cepat" (PHTC, or "Fastest Results Program").

The Mamasa Regency government said that, as of a September 11, 2026 review by the Presidential Staff Office, construction was targeted for completion at the end of December 2026. The planned inauguration date was December 27, 2026.

Earlier concerns over buildings and staff

Kondosapata also received a presidential inspection on April 23, 2024. According to the Cabinet Secretariat, then-President Joko Widodo found that construction issues had left the second and third floors unused.

Widodo said doctors would be sent for specialist training. He said advanced equipment, including a cath lab, mammography equipment and a CT scanner, would follow once the necessary staff were ready.
