Baznas and Muhajir deliver clean water to nearly 7,000 people in Gaza

Indonesia's National Alms Agency (Baznas) and zakat collection institution Muhajir delivered 68,920 liters of clean water to 6,892 Palestinians in Gaza's Al Qarara area, including residents displaced by the humanitarian crisis.

Water delivered to refugee camps

The partners took the water directly to refugee camps for drinking and sanitation, Baznas Head Sodik Mudjahid said in a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday, October 24. Each recipient received 10 liters.

Mudjahid said the delivery was intended to address basic needs, especially among displaced residents with little access to safe drinking water.

"Clean water is essential for daily life. Therefore, we hope that this aid will help ease the burden on residents and displaced families in Gaza," he said.

He described drinking water and sanitation as vital needs during the emergency and said working with Muhajir was part of Baznas's strategy to reach more Palestinians with humanitarian assistance.

Widespread water insecurity

A UNICEF humanitarian situation update published on May 29, 2026, reported that 82% of families in the Gaza Strip remained water insecure. Up to 70% could not collect the minimum of 6 liters per person each day for drinking and cooking.

Those shortages persisted even as drinking-water distributions reached up to 1.5 million people, with coverage dependent on access and operational conditions, according to the update.

Earlier water and meal deliveries

Baznas had also supplied water to Gaza during Ramadan. In a March 3, 2026, statement, issued when Noor Achmad chaired the agency, Baznas reported delivering 100,000 liters to 2,500 people in the Al Jalaa region.

The partnership with Muhajir has also included food aid. According to a Baznas statement dated September 23, 2026, Baznas and LAZ Muhajir delivered 3,000 ready-to-eat meals through their "Hotmeals" program between September 10 and 16, distributing 500 portions per day. The operation covered Deir Al Balah, Al Maghazi, Al Zawadiyah and Al Mawasi in the Gaza Strip.
