Household allocations and eligibility

The government has set aside about one million tons of rice for 33.2 million beneficiaries, Hasan said in a statement received in Medan. Each beneficiary family is due 30 kilograms in a single delivery, covering a monthly entitlement of 10 kilograms for October, November and December, according to his October 7 remarks reported by ANTARA.

The aid targets households in the bottom four socioeconomic groups in the government's socioeconomic database. Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said earlier in October that distribution would continue that month, backed by a budget of Rp17.5 trillion, or about $970 million.

This phase follows distributions in February-March and July-September 2026. National Food Agency (Bapanas) records cited by ANTARA put deliveries for the July-September phase at roughly 967,500 metric tons as of September 30. The assistance is part of the government's 2026 stimulus policy, which provides food aid for eight months.

Rice reserves and distribution

Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizaldi said in October that the agency had 4.5 million tons of rice in stock. Supplying the 33.2 million targeted beneficiaries during the year's final three months would require less than one million tons, he said, leaving reserves above three million tons after the aid distribution.

Darma Wijaya, who heads Bulog's North Sumatra office, said the agency was strengthening its stocks and distribution network to support both food assistance and the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program.

"We will continue maximizing distribution to ensure that rice assistance reaches verified beneficiaries and that SPHP rice remains easily accessible to the public to help maintain supply and price stability," he said.

Hasan praised cooperation between his ministry and Bulog toward the government's goal of becoming self-sufficient in several food commodities.

Bulog also reported a profit of Rp2.6 trillion, about $145 million, through September 26, 2026. President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani attributed part of the earnings to SPHP rice distribution and government food assistance.

Subsidized rice sales to continue

Alongside the household aid, Hasan said the government would continue SPHP sales, allocating another one million tons of rice to the market program through March 2027. The rice sells for Rp12,500, about $0.70, per kilogram. He said the program helps keep food affordable during the lean season and supports stable rice prices.

In a September 7 statement, Hasan described an additional one million tons of medium-quality SPHP rice prepared for October-December 2026. He said the supply was intended to anticipate price increases after a prolonged dry season and El Niño drought reduced rice production in several areas.

Hasan also said on September 7 that the government had renamed SPHP "Beras Kita Medium." New packaging was targeted for an October 20 launch, with a subsidized selling price of around Rp12,000 to Rp12,500 per kilogram.
